The spokesperson for Vox in the Seville City Council, Gonzalo García de Polavieja, has denounced that the awnings on streets like José Gestoso have not been fully installed due to lack of budget, despite being approved.

The spokesperson for Vox in the Seville City Council, Gonzalo García de Polavieja, visited the streets of José Gestoso, Córdoba, and Alfonso XII this Friday, alerted by traders and locals, to check the status of the awnings. According to his complaint, in the last stretch of José Gestoso street, right where it meets Plaza de la Encarnación, no awning has been installed. The installation company reportedly communicated that the budget has run out.

An approved project that is not being fulfilled

The initial project, approved by the District Board of the Old Town, included the installation of awnings throughout the street. However, according to García de Polavieja, the execution has been left incomplete. "We do not know what is happening, but the City Council is not getting it right," lamented the councillor. "Every year, the installation of the awnings ends up being a problem. For one reason or another, every summer issues arise, controversies are generated, and in the end, the awnings are not put up, as in the case of Avenida de la Constitución and other streets in the centre."

Locals and traders upset

García de Polavieja reminded that Vox's proposal in the District Board, backed by the signatures of all the businesses and residents of José Gestoso, was approved. But now the locals are "agitated and upset" because they had to call extraordinary meetings in their property communities to give consent for the installation of the awnings, which ultimately have not been placed. "Another year, late and poorly done," concluded the spokesperson.

The Vox councillor criticized that the expansions of streets with awnings announced "with great fanfare" by Urban Planning are not being executed, and that we are already in mid-July with many awnings still not installed. For the residents of the centre, the lack of shade in the height of summer poses a daily problem, as high temperatures make walking and trading in the area difficult.

The municipal group of Vox demands that the City Council fulfil its promises and install the awnings in all the planned streets, with the necessary budget. Meanwhile, the traders and residents of the Old Town will continue to wait for a solution that, for now, is not forthcoming.
