A simultaneous failure in four transformation centres has left around 10,000 residents of Estepa and Herrera without electricity since Tuesday afternoon. Endesa has installed six generators to alleviate the situation, although they are not yet operational in Herrera.

A simultaneous failure in four transformation centres has caused a power outage affecting the Sevillian municipalities of Estepa and Herrera, in the Sierra Sur, since last evening. According to the mayors of both towns, around 10,000 people have been affected by the fault, which occurred around 8:00 PM.

The mayor of Estepa, Antonio Muñoz, explained that the failure was simultaneous in four transformation centres, leaving a significant part of the population without service. Around 3:00 AM, the company Endesa activated several generators that are currently providing service to the municipality while waiting for the fault to be resolved definitively.

Herrera, in the dark and with 40 degrees

The situation is more critical in Herrera, where the mayor, Jorge Muriel, noted that the generators are still not operational. "Half of the town, about 3,500 people, remain without power, in a true disaster, at 40 degrees and with businesses shut down," lamented Muriel.

According to information provided by the distributor, technical teams have been working since the incident occurred to locate the fault and restore electricity supply as soon as possible. The affected area in Herrera is the one that depends on the transformation centres in Estepa, while the rest of the municipality has no issues.

Endesa installs six generators

Endesa has installed six generators to ensure electricity supply to residents of both towns, which have a combined population of around 19,000, of which approximately 10,000 are affected. Company sources have indicated that the problem has been located in two incidents in medium voltage lines and that, while the fault is being located and repaired, efforts are being made to alleviate the situation with the generators.

According to the official e-distribution website, there are five power outage points in Estepa and four in Herrera, with no forecast yet on when the fault will be resolved. The affected residents, who have been without electricity for over 12 hours, are awaiting an urgent solution, especially given the high temperatures recorded in the area.

For the residents of Estepa and Herrera, the outage means not only a lack of lighting but also the inability to use appliances, preserve food in the fridge, or keep homes cool. Local shops and bars have had to close, resulting in economic losses. The electricity company has not provided a specific timeline for the full restoration of service, although it assures that technicians are working tirelessly.
