Twelve students from Tomares have completed the subsidised preparatory English course for the Cambridge B2, promoted by the Town Hall. Mayor José María Soriano presented the diplomas this Friday.
The Mayor of Tomares, José María Soriano, presented the diplomas to the twelve students who participated in the Adult English Course preparatory for the Cambridge B2 this Friday. The training, organised and subsidised by the Town Hall, was aimed at residents of the municipality.
The event served to recognise the effort of the participants during a 40-hour course, in which they received the necessary theoretical and practical preparation to face the official Cambridge exam with greater chances of success. This qualification currently holds significant value in job selection processes and job interviews.
During the diploma presentation, the Mayor congratulated the students for completing this training and emphasised the importance of continuing to provide tools that help improve the opportunities for residents. “We conclude the subsidised English course, preparatory for the Cambridge exams, with the presentation of diplomas recognising the participating students. A key training that opens doors to future employment and expands the opportunities for our residents. Best of luck in your exams!” highlighted José María Soriano.
The course took place between May 11 and June 24 and had a subsidised cost of €39.20 for registered residents, aiming to facilitate access to this preparation. The training was delivered by native teachers from Centris English School, an academy based in Tomares and an official preparation centre for Cambridge exams. Through a primarily communicative approach, students worked on the main skills necessary to pass the test, such as spoken and written communication, listening comprehension, and reading, as well as the correct use of the English language and grammar.
In recent years, the demand for English certifications has notably increased in Spain. According to data from the Cambridge English report, the number of candidates for the B2 has risen by 30% since 2020, driven by the need to certify levels in work and academic environments. In Tomares, the Town Hall has invested in these initiatives to improve the employability of its citizens, offering courses at reduced prices that avoid the need to travel to other locations.
Obtaining the B2 level in English has become an increasingly demanded requirement in the job market, so these types of courses aim to provide citizens with new tools to expand their training and their access to employment opportunities. Students will now need to sit the official exam in the upcoming Cambridge sessions to obtain the final certification.
