Seville City Council guarantees the half a million euros allocated to connect the Paseo de Nuestra Señora de la O with Calle Betis under the Triana bridge. The works, budgeted at over one million euros, will begin in 2027.

The Urban Planning Management of Seville City Council approved on Tuesday the allocation of €551,057.69 for the reform of the Paseo de Nuestra Señora de la O and its connection with Calle Betis, a project that will allow uninterrupted walking between both spaces under the Triana bridge. The allocation, which will be included in the 2027 Budget, completes the municipal contribution to the agreement with the Ministry of Development, which finances the remaining 47.61% of the project, approximately €469,699.

The aim of the intervention is to create a continuous pedestrian route, with new pavement, resting and contemplation areas, and an increased provision of trees and shade. The connection under the Triana bridge will eliminate the current barrier separating both promenades, integrating the riverside space with the Triana neighbourhood. The total budget for the works amounts to €1,020,756, which is 10% more than the initially planned €909,938 due to delays in processing.

The project, which originated in 2020 with a grant from the Junta de Andalucía, has undergone several modifications. In 2023, it received approval from the Provincial Commission of Historical Heritage, but the change in municipal government and price updates have delayed its execution. With this agreement, the government of José Luis Sanz commits to tender the works in 2027 and award them to a construction company.

The reform also includes the installation of canopies, benches, and new trees to enhance shade and pedestrian comfort. The Paseo de la O, which runs alongside the Guadalquivir River, is one of the busiest areas of Triana, and its connection with Calle Betis, famous for its terraces and bars, aims to boost the tourist and community appeal of the riverside.

The agreement between the City Council and the Ministry of Development, updated at the end of 2025, establishes that the Junta will take charge of the contracting, direction, and coordination of the works, while the City Council contributes the majority of the budget. The municipal allocation is completed with an additional €5,857.65 that was still to be allocated, also approved in the commission.

The original project, budgeted at €707,565 in 2020, has increased by 44% to the current million. Residents of Triana have been demanding this connection for years, which will allow a continuous walk from the Isabel II bridge to the San Telmo bridge, without having to divert through interior streets. The works, which will last several months, are expected to be completed throughout 2028.
