The judge has ordered provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail for the man arrested as the alleged author of the death of a 44-year-old woman in Mairena del Aljarafe. The man, aged 46, has exercised his right not to testify.

The Court of Violence against Women number 5 of Seville, on duty, ordered this Monday the provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail of the man arrested for the death of his partner in Mairena del Aljarafe. The victim, a 44-year-old woman, died after receiving several stab wounds inside the marital home.

According to the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), the arrested man, around 46 years old, also had knife wounds, "presumably the result of self-inflicted injuries." After being discharged from the hospital, he was placed at the judicial disposal, where he exercised his right not to testify.

Protection measures for the minor child

The judge has imposed on the accused, for an alleged crime of murder, a prohibition on communicating and approaching within 500 meters of the minor child of the couple. Additionally, the suspension of parental authority, guardianship, and any visitation or stay arrangements regarding the minor has been agreed upon.

These measures, according to judicial sources, aim to ensure the safety of the child, who has been placed under the care of social services. The incident has shocked the Sevillian locality, where the City Council has called for a minute of silence in condemnation of the crime.

A crime that reignites the alert for gender violence

The Government's subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, confirmed that the agents who arrived at the scene verified that the woman had injuries consistent with the use of knives. Inside the home, the man, born in 1982, was also present and had attempted self-harm.

With this murder, there have been 41 women killed by gender violence in Spain so far this year, according to official data. In Andalusia, the number rises to 10 fatalities. The case in Mairena del Aljarafe raises concern among feminist associations, which demand more resources for the prevention and protection of victims.

The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has expressed its condemnation and reminded that the phone number 016 offers free and confidential support to victims, 24 hours a day. Locally, the City Council of Mairena del Aljarafe has made psychological support services available to residents.

The arrested man will remain in prison awaiting the continuation of the judicial proceedings. The case remains under judicial secrecy.
