Unemployment in Seville city stands at 49,130 people after a decrease of 633 in June. This is the lowest figure since June 2008, just before the financial crisis.

The unemployment data in Seville city continues to bring good news. The number of unemployed registered at the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) has reached 49,130 people at the end of June 2026, which represents a decrease of 633 unemployed compared to the previous month. This figure is the lowest since June 2008, when there were 49,370 unemployed, just a quarter before the global financial crisis erupted.

The positive trend is consolidating: there have now been four consecutive months of declines, since March of this year. In year-on-year terms, the comparison with June 2025 shows a reduction of 4,502 unemployed, an 8.39% decrease. The mayor, José Luis Sanz, has completed three years in office, and the balance is 12,265 fewer unemployed since his investiture, a drop of 19.97%.

The services sector, a driver of employment

As usual, the services sector has been the driving force. In June, unemployment in this sector decreased by 466 people, down to 36,546 unemployed. The industry also contributed with 69 fewer unemployed (2,064 in total), while construction saw a reduction of 19 (2,821). Agriculture, on the other hand, was the only sector that saw an increase in unemployment: 28 more, up to 1,031. The group of those without previous employment decreased by 107 people, standing at 6,668.

Summer and tourism partly explain these good figures. Although in June 2025, 259,635 tourists stayed in the city's hotels, a figure slightly lower than the 266,168 in 2024, activity remains high. The heat, which previously deterred visitors, is no longer a hindrance.

A three-year period of continuous declines

Since José Luis Sanz took office as mayor in June 2023, unemployment has decreased from 61,395 to 49,130. This means that one in five unemployed people at that time has found work. 69% of that decrease has been concentrated in the services sector, while construction, despite the urban development push from the local government, has only contributed a modest part. Additionally, 1,963 people who had never worked before have secured their first job during this period.

By gender, the trend is positive for both men and women, which was not common until recently. In June, both groups recorded declines, without the traditional imbalance against women.

For the residents of Seville city, this data translates into greater economic stability and more job opportunities, especially in the services sector, which continues to be the mainstay of local employment. The next update on unemployment figures will be in July, when it will be revealed whether the trend continues.
