The full council of Mairena del Alcor unanimously approved the honorary distinction of 'Personal Commendation' for several local police officers. The recognitions reward four meritorious interventions carried out between December 2023 and September 2025, including saving a person from a suicide attempt and apprehending the driver of a stolen car who tried to run over the officers.
The full council of Mairena del Alcor unanimously approved on Tuesday, June 30, the granting of the honorary distinction of Personal Commendation to several local police officers. The recognitions reward interventions that have significantly exceeded the normal level of service compliance, demonstrating a high degree of sacrifice and effectiveness, as stated in the municipal agreement.
The distinctions respond to four actions of special relevance that occurred between December 2023 and September 2025. The first of these was on December 10, 2023, when four officers managed to save the life of a person in a suicide attempt after scaling the façade of the house and performing resuscitation maneuvers until medical emergencies arrived.
Rescues and Arrests that Made a Difference
On November 17, 2024, two police officers rescued a person after accessing a home by descending through a courtyard and forcing a grate. The person was lying on the ground and unable to call for help, so the rapid intervention of the officers was crucial to prevent further harm.
On April 28, 2025, a large operation involving ten officers, both on duty and volunteers, ensured public safety and community assistance without incidents during the power outage that affected all of Spain that day. The coordination of the force allowed for maintaining order and assisting residents affected by the power cut.
The most recent action recognised occurred on September 21, 2025, when three officers apprehended the driver of a stolen car who had previously attempted to run them over to evade a traffic control. The incident caused the offending vehicle to collide with several homes, although there were no serious injuries reported.
A Unanimous Support that Values Risk
The proposal, previously endorsed by reports from the Local Police Chief and Human Resources, received unanimous support from all municipal groups. The distinctions will be noted in the personal files of the officers and will be communicated to the Junta de Andalucía, as reported by the council.
For the residents of Mairena del Alcor, this recognition represents a gesture of gratitude towards those who risk their lives every day. The town of around 23,000 inhabitants has a local police force that has demonstrated in these four episodes a commitment that goes beyond what is required.
The spokesperson for the government team highlighted that “these officers are an example of public service and their work deserves the applause of the entire municipality.” The distinctions will be presented at a public event yet to be determined, where the presence of family members and representatives of the municipal corporation is expected.
